Jones Lang LaSalle is Named 2010 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year

Global commercial real estate services firm first earned award in 2007 in recognition of its continuing leadership in energy efficiency and sustainability

CHICAGO, MARCH 1, 2010 — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has named Jones Lang LaSalle 2010 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year for its accomplishments in significant energy and financial savings through successful strategic energy management programs on behalf of clients and  commitment to save energy across its entire operation.

The 2010 Partner of the Year Awards recognize efforts to use energy efficiently in facility operations and to integrate superior energy management into overall organizational strategy. Award winners are selected from more than 17,000 organizations that participate in the ENERGY STAR program.

An ENERGY STAR Partner since 1998, Jones Lang LaSalle was first named Partner of the Year in 2007, and has continually enhanced its service platform and internal practices to earn the award again in 2010.  The firm’s accomplishments in energy management and carbon footprint reduction will be recognized at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. on March 18.

“Our long-term partnership with ENERGY STAR was a key element that helped us save more than $100 million in energy costs and reduce greenhouses gases by 465,000 tons on behalf of clients in 2009,” said Peter Belisle, President of Energy and Sustainability Services at Jones Lang LaSalle. “As an increasing number of states and cities mandate energy performance data from commercial buildings across the board, ENERGY STAR is becoming an even more important part of our service delivery.”

Key accomplishments that led to Jones Lang LaSalle’s selection as Partner of the Year include:

  • Achievement of 100 percent participation in ENERGY STAR across the firm’s investor-owned and retail mall portfolios.
  • Attainment of the ENERGY STAR label at 90 properties totaling more than 34 million square feet.
  • Energy usage reduction totaling 2.85 billion kBtu at properties across the country, equivalent to removing almost 89,000 cars from the road.
  • Implementation of energy management best practices through the development of a tutorial to guide on-site professionals though the ENERGY STAR strategic approach to energy management.
  • Engagement of more than 10,000 U.S. employees in energy conservation efforts by participating in the “Change the World, Start with ENERGY STAR” campaign, observing Energy Awareness Month, and aggressively training employees to use and promote ENERGY STAR.
  • Promoting the role of ENERGY STAR tools and resources, such as Portfolio Manager and Target Finder, through highly visible efforts such as the Empire State Building energy retrofit.
